Mitchell Completes Lead Law Certification

Mitchell Construction Group, Inc. has successfully completed the requirements for the Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule set out by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to become a certified firm to conduct lead-based paint activities and/or renovations. In addition, three Mitchell Construction Group employees have successfully completed an 8 hour renovator training course offered by the Institute of Environmental Education (IEE).

Training consisted of a 6 hour in-class and 2 hour hands-on training on how to renovate safely in housing with lead-based paint and comply with regulations. Certified renovators are responsible for ensuring overall compliance with the Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program’s requirements for lead-safe work practices. Renovator certification is valid for 5 years.

As of April 22, 2010 all firms and employees performing renovation work for compensation in pre-1978 homes or child-occupied facilities that will disturb more than 6 sq. ft. (interior) and 20 sq. ft. (exterior) of lead paint, or who are removing or modifying painted surfaces in the course of their work, will need to be certified by the EPA.

Process

The idea of remodeling can bring on a sense of excitement and of anxiety. To relieve you from the stress of going it alone, and to navigate all of the steps and facets of the project, we developed a thorough, proven process. It is a project delivery system that ensures success.

If you already have an architect, we have a customized process for you. Click here. If you want all of the services necessary for designing, remodeling, and building, please read on.

First, we provide you with both design and remodeling services under one roof. Our clients greatly prefer this, and we think you’ll agree, because our being your single source of accountability lends to better communication and better project management.

Together, we are a team. You’ll join our professional designers and builders as we develop buildable plans that address all of your needs and work with your budget. We assist you in making the selections that will work for you and your family, both functionally and aesthetically.

Your needs come first. We listen to your vision, review examples of styles you like and discuss the possible scope of your project. And we describe how we would approach your project. When you choose to proceed with us, we enter into a Design Agreement and begin the first phase of design.

The first phase of design is Preliminary Design. We further define the project scope, budget, and timeframe. Zoning or other requirements are addressed in order to comply with local agencies. You begin the product selection process, where the designer pulls together coordinated selections for the project and will bring the selections to you.  We do visit showrooms with you if desired, but bringing selections to you can really streamline the selection process making it easier and more enjoyable. Conceptual sketches and floor plans are developed, as well.

The next phase is Design Development. Many of your design selections such as flooring, wall colors, appliances, and cabinetry are completed. We draft floor plans and elevations and further revise the budget based on quotes from subcontractors and the design selections. A work schedule is drafted based on your desired timeframe for the project. We present you with the design plans for your approval and we schedule your construction.

During the Construction Documents and Specifications phase, we finalize all the design elements of the project and develop the documents necessary for construction. At the completion of this phase you have final plans, a final budget and a final work schedule.

In the Pre-Build Preparations phase our Project Manager (PM) becomes the designated and dedicated manager of your project. The PM manages the construction, informs you of the construction process, and addresses any questions or concerns you have throughout the project. We obtain the necessary permits to build and perform any pre-build activities. We then move onto the Build phase.

Mitchell Construction Group’sawards were presented by the Builder's Association of Greater Boston on October 14th at Boston's Park Plaza Hotel.

Mitchell Construction Groups Marc Gauthier Achieves New Certification From NARI

Medfield, MA -- Mitchell Construction Group Inc., a multi-award winning home remodeling design and build firm located in Medfield, is pleased to announce Marc Gauthier completed the process for Certified Lead Carpenter certification from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

In order to achieve the certification Marc completed the two-month study program and took and passed a six-hour written exam. 

The NARI certification program establishes high professional standards for the remodeling industry; standards on which homeowners can rely.  The standards also ensure that the remodeling professional you invite into your home, whom you are asking to change your home, has participated in extensive education, testing and review.

Earning the letters is not an easy task. Here is a summary of what is required:

 

• Applicants must be currently employed by, or own a firm engaged in, the remodeling business, which means that novice and part-times cannot be certified through NARI.
• Applicants must have been employed in the remodeling industry for a period of five years -- a significant achievement in this highly competitive industry.
• Applicants must submit a comprehensive application detailing industry background and experience. You will have the comfort of knowing that industry professionals have carefully scrutinized this individual’s background.
• Applicants must successfully complete a one-day written exam. Most applicants attend one of NARI’s structured Study Groups in order to pass the exam. To become certified, these remodelers dedicate numerous hours and enormous effort to learn the latest trends and stay current on industry standards.
• Applicants who achieve certification must complete continuing education requirements to retain their designations. It is not an easy ride after a remodeler becomes certified by NARI. Each one must meet the minimum educational requirements established by NARI. Most choose to attend additional industry-related seminars, workshops and meetings each year to maintain their educational edge on the competition.

Hiring a certified remodeler or lead carpenter could add that extra level of confidence you want when starting a big or small remodeling project.

“Certification shows an interest level beyond the average remodeler or carpenter. To become certified, a person must decide to be a step above the rest. Kevin Mitchell and Glenn Perry Awarded CGP Designation

June 19, 2009, Medfield – Kevin Mitchell and Glenn Perry, of Mitchell Construction Group, Inc., recently became part of the select group of professional builders, remodelers, and other industry professionals nationwide who have earned the Certified Green Professional (CGP) designation, identifying them as individuals with knowledge of the best strategies for incorporating green building principles into homes.

The CGP program is administered by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) University of Housing.

The CGP curriculum incorporates training by leading building industry practitioners and academics on a range of topics, including strategies for incorporating green-building principles into homes using cost-effective methods of construction, and how green homes provide buyers with lower maintenance and good indoor air quality. Techniques are also discussed for competitively differentiating home products with increased indoor environmental quality as well as energy and resource efficiency.

CGP program graduates are required to maintain their designation by completing 12 hours of continuing education every three years.

The NARI is the only trade association dedicated solely to the remodeling industry. With more than 7,000 member companies nationwide, the Association is considered “The Voice of the Remodeling Industry”.
